Kieren is a professional trumpet player with a BA Hons in Jazz & Pop Music and a PGCE from the Royal Northern College of Music.

Tutoring Experience:

Kieren has a degree with honours in Jazz & Popular Music and was awarded the Mike Somerton Award for Jazz Performance at the University of Hull. He has attained a PGCE from the Royal Northern College of Music.

During his time at the University of Hull, Kieren led the University Big Band as the Musical Director. He was responsible for managing, teaching and directing a band of 20+ university standard members. Due to his success in the role, Kieren was re-elected for a second term in his final year.

Outside of teaching music daily as part of his PGCE, Kieren has also taught a plethora of private students and helped them to achieve ABRSM grades. The most recent being an elderly lady who wished to fulfill her dream of achieving her Grade 5 Piano. This goal has now been fulfilled, with the student attaining this qualification with merit.

Kieren currently holds a post as an Instrumental Music Teacher at St Marys College in Hull

Tutoring Approach:

My passion for music, not only through practice but also education, is clear and as such I offer a wide variety of lessons to suit students needs. Both classical and pop lessons are offered as such.

I believe lessons can and should be tailored to suit the individual students needs and goals. This is achieved through open discussion with the student (and parents) before and after each lesson and setting individual goals. From incomporating music theory and fundamentals for beginners, through to improving musicality or genre specific needs in more advanced musicians.
