Personal Description:

Katie is an accomplished performer and passionate tutor of music who specialises in jazz and with over ten years of teaching experience she has developed an inspiring and versatile style of music education. As a skilled performer of both the jazz and classical genres on the saxophone, flute and clarinet, Katie is able to teach to a professional standard and demonstrate all techniques to pupils as a part of the learning process. She is passionate about music and performance being fun and encourages her students to engage in a wide variety of musical styles and ensembles, giving them opportunity to express their creativity.

Since graduating from the jazz course at Leeds College of Music in 2010, Katie has been performing professionally with a number of bands in theatres and music venues across the country. She is currently on tour with the UK Pink Floyd Experience playing the UK theatre circuit and also performs regularly in a 7 piece jazz ensemble, a jazz duo and in pit orchestras across the Midlands.

With over 10 years of teaching experience, Katie has developed a competent and adaptable style of music education and her portfolio of work includes experience in the following areas:

Tutoring Approach:

Passionate about music and performance being fun, Katie encourages her pupils to engage in a wide variety of musical styles and gives them opportunities to express their creativity through improvisation. She values the importance of music making from a young age and strongly believes in music education through interaction, experimentation and exposure as well as through intellectual learning. An accomplished performer of both classical and jazz music on the flute, saxophone and clarinet she is able to teach to professional standard and demonstrate techniques to pupils as part of the learning process. Katie is happy for lessons to be flexible and based around the aims of each individual, whether that is graded exams, ensemble playing or beginners wanting to explore their instrument and have fun.
