Personal Description:

I teach ABRSM Music Theory, Music Composition, A-Level and GCSE music on an online basis.

I am a music composition student at Masters Level at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam, and have a degree in Music from the University of Cambridge. A particular speciality of mine is composition, and I am a recipient of the Arthur Bliss Prize for Composition and a Finzi Scholarship. My works have been performed by players of international renown - including the violinist Peter Sheppard Skaerved and the pianist Tom Poster - in venues which include the Purcell Room, London, and the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

I am also an expert in music theory, history and analysis, having studied these subjects extensively as part of my degree at Cambridge University. I can tutor music theory up to ABRSM Grade 8, and also the A level curriculum. I can also tutor in aural skills, whether for A level or for ABRSM grades.

***Please note: I only offer online tuition***

Tutoring Experience:

My past students have gone on to achieve the A-Level grades they needed and win composition competitions. Please see below for a testimonial from a composition student:

'Kate is one of very few people I know who has had the patience to sit with me for hours transcribing my pieces as I dictated them, without which, as a blind composer, I could not have continued to write. She has also massively helped me improve my sense of harmony and deepen my knowledge of writing for various instruments, including the the preparation of pianos, the use of the bow on the vibraphone and how to write for harp. I have been greatly inspired by Kate and her music; I am now hoping for a career in composition, which I would never have had the confidence to consider without her clear but not exaggerated passion, invaluable encouragement and expert advice.'

Tutoring Approach:

My friends, family and clients describe me as patient, kind and empathetic, with a sense of humour. Being a professional musician, I have an extensive knowledge of and passion for music.
