Personal Description:
I am a qualified primary school teacher and have ABRSM Piano Qualifications to grade 7 and ABRSM Singing qualifications to grade 8. I am furthering my professional development by studying for my Diploma in Piano Teaching from London College of Music.
I write music and have several musicals published and performed regularly by primary schools.
As well as this I am a member of professional bodies that enable me to further my teaching skills and share expertise and experiences with other teachers.
I hold a current DBS enhanced check as I still do some teaching in schools.
Tutoring Experience:
teach ONLINE lessons, via Zoom, Skype or Facetime/Whatsapp as well as in person, so you don't have to travel if that is an issue.
I have been teaching since 1991 in primary schools, and in 2012 I started my own business in piano and singing tuition.
I tutor people to take ABRSM, Trinity and Rock School exams as well as learning solely for pleasure. My students have gained many merits and distinctions and I recieive lots of great feedback about how much people enjoy learning to play/sing.
I teach adults as well as children. Learning a new skill later in life or returning to one you once practised is very rewarding and good for mental health.
I teach Music Theory to Grade 5.
One of my pupils has recently gained a place at the Royal Northern College of Music and another is studying film music and composition at Leeds College of Music.
Tutoring Approach:
My tag line, in all that I do, is 'Inspiring Creativity!' because this is my passion.
I follow individual teaching plans for every student according to their needs. I encourage musical exploration, through improvisation and composition as well as teaching theory in order to develop well rounded musicians.
I believe that building good working relationships and communication with parents and students is essential for learning. I make lessons fun and ensure that the student feels relaxed with me.
I hold concerts and get togethers, where pupils are encouraged to perform both formally and casually. Not compulsory to take part - just encouraged.
