Personal Description:

As well as music teaching, I am currently studying a masters in Music Psychology at the University of Sheffield and am particularly interested in and researching researching music and emotion, musical development and music and empathy.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a freelance music teacher/musician based in Sheffield.

I have several years experience teaching a range of ages and abilities both privately and in schools. In addition to private music tuition, I also enjoy running community music workshops working with all ages, settings and abilites and have worked with CBSO Notelets, Birmingham Playcare Network, BCU Nursery, Heartlands Hospital and Birmingham Centre for Arts Therapies.

As a performer, I have been lucky enough to be involved in some exciting projects including filming for BBC's Songs of Praise and performing for the Royal Shakespeare Company. I regularly perform and compose for my folk band Sunfleur and baroque chamber group Ensemble Sonora. I have also played for various theatre productions, operas and contemporary projects around the country.

As a teacher, I do my best to tailor my lessons to the pupil and their interests- I recognise that everyone learns differently and try to apply this to my teaching. I can offer tuition using the ABRSM and Trinity exam syllabuses (I have a 100% pass rate for all students that have undertaken exams) but can plan my lessons based on individual requirements.

I am currently studying for an MA in Music Psychology at the University of Sheffield.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is that I prefer to tailor my lesson to you. Whether this be the exam route (100% pass rate in all exams taken by my students) or as a hobby.

I will work on topics such as technique, posture, ear training, improvisation and theory right from the very beginning but the most important thing is that my lessons are fun!
