Personal Description:

I love to learn and I'm passionate about making learning fun and inspiring for others. I'm a freelance conductor and composer, so I'm always thinking about what I'm teaching.
I was mainly educated in the UK, studying music academically at the University of Cambridge and then going on to Oxford to write my doctoral thesis on the music of Webern.
Over the last two years I've been living abroad where I learnt to work in my second language, so I really know what it feels like to be on either side of the classroom!

Tutoring Experience:

I've been teaching for over a decade, working with students aged 8–18. I teach conducting, composition, and music theory, as well as working with students for A-Level and university entrance.
Every year I teach on Pro Corda's chamber music courses and I've led clinics abroad too, alongside working with my private students.

Tutoring Approach:

I always ensure that my students have a well-rounded education. Whichever discipline you are pursuing, I think it is crucial to have a comprehensive understanding of music that puts technique alongside history and context. We will work on aural skills as well as more theoretical training.
My lessons are always structured: together we will identify clear targets, whether external (a concert, exams, university entrance) or between ourselves ("I want to be able to do… ") and then I will develop a plan of lessons to ensure we achieve them.
Above all, my lessons are fun and engaging: I love music and I want you to as well!
