This is how 2 referees rated Jonathan:
I am a freelance musician and guitar tutor. I play in a variety of different groups and bands. These include a function band, various jazz ensembles and a rock band. Music is my passion and it brings me great pleasure to perform regularly. Since moving to East Sussex from Devon, I have hoped to get back in to teaching on a full time basis. I am an amiable person who gets on well with people. This has always served me well as a tutor.
I have spent many years as a guitar tutor and professional musician. During this time I have had the great pleasure of teaching hundreds of budding guitarists. I have worked as a peripatetic guitar tutor in primary, secondary and higher education. My teaching experience includes children as young as seven to adults who draw a pension. I have taught people of all ages, ability and in varying numbers; from classes of 15-20, to small groups of 3, to the individual.
Outside of formal educational establishments I have taught many students from the comfort of their home.
I am passionate about music and the guitar. My approach is varied depending on the tutee or group. I always aim to construct a tailored course of lessons for the tutee, taking in to account their ability and speed of development. For young children one method may be to follow a lesson plan in a book. This way parents can follow their child's progress and monitor their development. For some older students, teens for example, I try and encourage their development by teaching them songs or music from their favourite artists and explain the theory and technique that the song employs.
Some students may wish to take grades, such as the Rock School grades. This will then form the spine of their tuition programme.
I have an eclectic taste in music and hope to meet the tutee's need to learn how to play their favourite styles.
