Personal Description:

Having recently graduated with a degree in trombone performance, I have lots of performance experience playing with orchestras, brass bands, wind bands, brass quintets, trombone quartets, contemporary music ensembles and more. I believe that music provides opportunities to learn a wide range of skills.

Whilst at the Conservatoire, I was awarded places on training schemes with the CBSO and the Birmingham Royal Ballet Sinfonia. I also won the Bernard Brown Brass Ensemble Prize two consecutive years, with two different groups.

I travel to you in the Birmingham area (based in Edgbaston) and have flexible times available Mon - Sat. I can also teach in and around Coventry, but contact me to discuss availability.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience teaching individuals of varying ages. I also have experience presenting educational assemblies/ workshops. One of which, as a member of a brass quintet, we delivered to a primary school where they learned how brass instruments worked and what sort of music they play. Lots of the children at the end of the assembly said that they would now be interested in learning a brsss instrument.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning music should be a fun and engaging process. I aim to come up with memorable ways to help you learn.

Most lessons I teach begin with a warm-up to develop six fundamental techniques involved in playing a brass instrument. My easy way to remember these for the younger ones: 'Big Monkeys Like To Learn Scales' - Breathing, Mouthpiece, Long notes, Tounge, Lip Slurs and Scales (all will be explained!).

I can teach all ages (suggested minimum age 8), standards and styles (recently toured the U.K. backing a rock band as part of a 35-piece orchestra, something quite different and a lot of fun!).
