Personal Description:

I have played guitar for 18 years, but can also play ukulele, mandolin, piano and bass. I have completed a BA (Hons) degree in Music, and have taught guitar privately and professionally for the last five years or so.

Having a music degree, along with a Foundation Degree in Applied Music Practice, a BTEC National Diploma in Music and an A Level in Performing Arts has given me a vast array of musical skills, knowledge, and experience in all aspects of music, from performing and recording to composing and arranging - and I love every aspect of it.

I can play and teach a wide variety of styles and genres, from Blues, Folk, Country, Jazz, Classical, Rock and Pop. I take a special interest in Fingerstyle guitar techniques as well Improvisation across all genres of music.
I am a member of the Musicians Union and so covered by Public Liability Insurance, and have also completed a course in Safeguarding.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught guitar privately for seven years or so, to both young and old. As part of my Foundation Degree I completed a module called Teaching & Facilitating, which required teaching and assisting full groups of students as well as individuals.

I currently also work as a guitar and ukulele teacher at a music school based in Tyne & Wear, working with students of all ages, levels and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that enjoyment is one of the most important factors when learning an instrument. Whether the student wants to play professionally or just casually, the experience should be fun as well as informative. Everybody learns things at a different pace and in different ways, so I cater my lessons around what the student wants and expects from music. However, they will be challenged to be the best they can be.
