I am a 22 year old jazz saxophonist currently living in South Wales after graduating from the University of Southampton with a 2.1 degree in Maths with Music. I have always been passionately devoted to music and enjoy teaching new skills to others as much as I enjoy crafting them myself. I started learning the piano in primary school and soon afterwards picked up the saxophone - undoubtedly two of my greatest decisions to date. I was classically trained and achieved grade 8 in both before starting university, where I soon discovered the depth of my passion for jazz. I belong to and have played in several jazz outfits including Penquin (Latin Jazz), Southampton University Jazz Orchestra, and Monmouth Big Band. I am also the saxophonist for Southampton night club Café Parfait and have played in many funk/pop/rock bands since secondary school.
Music is largely my foremost passion, however I also enjoy skiing, snowboarding, tennis and the occasional mathematical equation.
I currently teach piano to many students on a weekly basis from a wide range of ages and styles (primarily classical), and thoroughly enjoy nurturing excitement and the ability levels in each of them. I am also a maths tutor with several GCSE students, so I have extensive experience in working with children and fostering the essential qualities needed to achieve their goals whilst enjoying themselves. At the ages of 15-17 I also taught piano to a handful of young children so it is an area I am extremely familiar and confident with.
When teaching I make sure to tailor the lesson to the individual personality and aims of each student whilst ensuring the learning environment is relaxed yet focused. Outside of the lesson I believe that inspiring students to enjoy practising and crafting their skills leads to significant results, so I therefore make it a primary aim to encourage this from the start. Overall, if I am offered just a small amount of concentration and hard work then I believe I can take anyone to their desired goals - whether its grades, a deeper understanding of Jazz Theory or just to have fun playing music!
