Information About Joanna - Blackheath teacher - (1 review)
This is how 4 referees rated Joanna:
I've been playing and performing music for over 25 years. I play a wide range of styles from classical to improvisational jazz. I'm a teacher as my main profession, I work for several extra-curricular music schools where I teach and manage a small class of children and have a busy private practice. I also tutor for Youtube Channel HD Piano: you can find my playlist under Joanna where you can learn the intros to many of your favourite songs (and get a taste for my teaching!)
I'm also currently studying for my MA at Goldsmiths in Ethnomusicology. I'm interested in education and music and have recently taken up filmmaking. I regularly return to China where I run a music workshop over the summer teaching children how to interact and think with music.
I have been teaching music and specifically piano for over 10 years in the UK teaching a wide range of students from children aged 4 to adulthood. I teach keyboard **Contact Detail Removed** as well as 1-to-1 individual lessons. I also prepare for ABRSM, Trinity and Rockschool exams as well as performances.
I have experience organising and running music workshops in both China and Brazil. I have taught for the New Zealand and English ambassador.
I prefer a rounded musical lesson where the student sets the pace for the lesson. We learn theory, develop aural skills, learn to sing, sight read as well as skills enabling you to play away from music. I believe learning happens best when a supportive relationship is built between student and teacher.
I believe exams and performances are not the most crucial aspect to learning an instrument but can set important milestones and create a tremendous sense of achievement when successfully achieved. Exams are important but optional.
