This is how 4 referees rated Joanna:
My name is Joanna and I have been teaching piano and electronic keyboard since 2011. I started my musical journey, like most children, in group recorder lessons with a teacher named Mrs Neave (yes, I still remember her name). I stayed with her for 6 years. Right from the very start of my career I was encouraged, supported and allowed to create and play the music that I wanted. Mrs Neave had a great knack for motivating us through 'Rainbow Recorders' (we achieved a new colour each year we completed lessons with her), group workshops and performances. She was great at understanding what we enjoyed and really knew when to push us. I remember that our lessons were something I really looked forward to each week. I'm very proud to say that I earned my purple rainbow certificate.
I didn't start piano until I was 13 and by then, I was so eager to play and make music that I took everything I knew from my lessons with Mrs Neave and applied it to this new instrument. I was unstoppable and now, two music degrees later, I run a successful music practice have performed with the likes of Lesley Garrett and have taught in several languages around the world.
It is my personal wish and goal that all children feel the way that I felt about taking music lessons. I flourished under a supportive, encouraging and motivating teacher. Practice was never a chore because it was play. I felt motivated to learn because I had an intrinsic need to find out what was next.
I am a qualified teacher with over 11 years experience, currently working with over 60 students per week. I have taught in Brazil, China and the UK, in group, workshop and one-to-one environments.

My teaching philosophies:
1 Making music is at the heart of all lessons
2 Learning is placed within a structured and progressive framework
3 Separating the development of pianistic skills from the teaching of musical concepts
4 Every pupil is treated as unique and is given an individual and tailormade approach
5 Encouraging a sense of exploration and discovery in pupils
6 Engaging the imagination, energy and creativity of pupils and the teacher
7 Teaching with honesty, commitment, integrity, professionalism and passion
8 Being committed to a process of ongoing professional development and personal music-making
