Information About Joanna - Peterborough teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Joanna:
I am a professional cellist and studied with Christopher Bunting in London and at the Moscow Conservatoire. I toured North America as principal cellist with the Scottish Baroque Ensemble and shortly afterwards made my solo debut at the Wigmore Hall gaining excellent national reviews… In 1983 I founded and became artistic director of Peterborough String Orchestra which was reviewed in The Guardian as having “the sort of responsive precision you expect from a string quartet. The real emotional stuff of music making”. I recently recorded Bach’s first, third and fifth unaccompanied cello suites. I also arrange and compose music for cello and piano and string duet. This music is available at **Removed By Admin** and SJ Music has published my cello duet arrangements of Four Famous Opera Arias.
I love teaching and have taught cello at all levels for more than 40 years. Many of my cello pupils have gone to Music Colleges in London and Manchester. I also play piano well, so I can accompany cello pupils at all levels, and I currently teach at Oundle School.
I grew up in London and was lucky enough to have had some superb string instrument teachers myself - notably Christopher Bunting and Manny Hurwitz. Although they have influenced me quite a lot I have developed my own approach to teaching which includes encouraging pupils to improvise and play by ear as well as giving them a secure background in classical technique. I respond to every pupil individually, based on what they want to achieve on the cello, and am happy to teach at all levels.
