Information About Jim - Helston teacher
This is how 4 referees rated Jim:
I am a composer, piano teacher and lecturer, with 30 years experience as a piano and theory teacher. I also work as a freelance composer and as an academic. My composing work is often focused around responses to visual art for UK galleries such as Tate Modern, the RA and the Henry Moore Institute, and I have completed two research fellowships at the Royal Academy of Music in this field.
I have 30 years experience as a piano and theory teacher, and I am a qualified music teacher, PGCE. I am currently an associate lecturer for Falmouth University and a mentor for the South West Music School. I am DBS checked and a full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
I really enjoy teaching music as a joint exploration, tailored to whatever students' interests and enthusiasms happen to be, whether a more informal, open-ended broad approach to a wide variety of music, or a more focused and structured exam-focused path, or somewhere in between. I am very happy to work with complete beginners as well as advanced students needing specific input, and I particularly welcome adult and retired learners, beginners or otherwise and in all styles of music, as well as young people needing help with GCSE, A Level or degree level music.
It is natural to be a little daunted if you are starting completely from scratch as a beginner, but this can be one of the most satisfying and illuminating points from which to learn, and we will only move forward at a pace that is best for you.
