Information About Jim - Wickford teacher
I’m a London/Essex based guitarist/educator/clinician and have been a professional musician for the last 15 years. In 2002 I was voted runner up in the “Guitarist of the Year” competition run by Guitarist magazine.
As a session player I have worked on a multitude of projects for independent artists, record companies as well as radio and TV themes and soundtracks both here and in the US for the likes of Universal, Sky, CNN, WWE, Challenge TV and more, as well as featuring on CNN News marking the release of Jimi Hendrix’s historic Monterey performance on DVD.
As a performer, I have worked alongside, Grammy Award Winning composer David Arnold (James Bond, Independence Day), Mark Ronson, Gary Barlow, Damien Rice, David McAlmont, Bond, Carleen Anderson, members of Iron Maiden, Kaiser Chiefs, Manic Street Preachers, Skunk Anansie and Sikth, among others.
In addition to this, I write for Guitar Techniques Magazine and penned a monthly Rock Guitar column for Guitarist magazine for four years.
I have taught extensively at all levels, dealing with beginners to professionals alike and in academic capacities such as Btec, FE, Degree and Masters.
Currently I hold the ‘Deputy Head Of Guitar’ post at Tech Music School London and lecture for London College Of Music / UWL on both the Popular Music and Jazz courses. I am a member of the Registry Of Guitar Tutors (RGT) and have been a tutor for International Guitar Foundation (IGF), teaching on their summer residential courses from 2007-2010.
I can provide guidance in all areas of playing and contemporary styles to a professional level, including Blues/Jazz / Funk / Rock and Metal / Shred / Fusion, plus help you with all levels of music theory, sight reading, ear training, fretboard knowledge, improvisation, effective practise strategies and building technique.
