I believe that music is one of the universal language of mankind. People from all over the world could communicate with music and love.
My passion for music, especially for piano, started when I was only 6 years old. Since then, I have kept learning and working extremely hard to improve my understanding of music. I have been awarded the Diploma of ABRSM in music performance (piano) in 2015, in the UK. As part of the preparation for the diploma exam, I spent a great deal of time doing music background research regarding my recital pieces, which provided me with insights of the biographical information of the composers, the development of the instrument as well as the historical background at the time of composition. These enabled me to interpret the music more appropriately, and certainly helped to inform my teaching. I think it is particular important to keep the pupils well informed of the music background whilst training their technical ability, guide and inspire them to understand the music better, which develops their independent learning ability.
My piano teaching experience started when I was an undergraduate university student in 2005. I had the opportunities to teach young children at different levels. Since then I have become a sensitive and dedicated teacher with my own style of teaching. I have taught students from 6 to 36 years old.
Since 2014, I have also volunteered at the local pre-school and primary school as well as the local Brownies Club. Thanks to these experiences, I further improved my skills and confidence in working with large groups of children. I always respect the children, listen and talk to them patiently, instead of only lecturing them all the time. Showing children my enthusiasm and a few funny appropriate jokes have always been the best way to break the ice.
I temper my approach, design lessons and choose different teaching material to suit individual need, as every pupil is unique. My experience taught me that when working with young children, one should not take things for granted, and should not assume they know every common sense or basic knowledge. I trained myself to always be patient with pupils as initial progress could be difficult and slow. I firmly believe that a good balance of fun and discipline is crucial to the learning environment for young children, as they have to be kept interested as well as committed for hard work.
30-minute, 45-minute lessons are also available to suit individual need. Price available upon request.
