Personal Description:
Hi, I have autism and ADHD. As a music teacher, a significant part of my work is helping people to find their voice. Music is life to me - the tapping of my keys right now, the dripping of a tap, the squeaky crunch of snow. Rhythm and pattern is all around us, and when I let go of my voice, the best feeling is becoming part of that bigger picture of life.
I also like to help highly sensitive people (those who are more affected by internal and external stimuli than others) to embrace their sensitivities to manage the challenges and celebrate all the wonderful things about being sensitive.
Tutoring Experience:
I worked as a classroom teacher in South Wales after gaining my degree. On moving to Somerset I have worked as a music tutor for 24 years. I have helped many people to find better connection with their voice and as a result, better connection with their whole selves.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach is to help you find where your voice might be hiding or might be restricted. Some people hold back the power of their voice in their abdomen, some hold back their feelings in their chest and some hold back their expression in the area of their throat, face and jaw.
I help you: -
Understand and feel that you know your voice (your unique quality and tone)
Find your way around your voice (understand pitch by feeling reference points in your body and working with visual patterns)
Internalise the sensation of rhythm (through awareness of steady beat and movement)
Connect with your power to have a voice, and your desire to feel sound (words) and express these to other people.
Be authentic and compose your own music or learn how to interpret other people’s songs from an authentic place.
I am very flexible in my approach, am happy to help you with a particular singing style, and give as many or as few lessons as you would like to help you achieve your desired goal.

With Jennie I felt a rapid rapport as teacher and learner – she was open and friendly and made me feel confident in myself and in her. She could empathise with what I wanted and we focussed quickly on a systematic approach. Jennie was not that familiar with the particular brand of bluesy Americana that I liked, but we quickly got into a pattern of learning.
The lessons are relaxed and amiable, but also demanding. Jennie is organised and definite, but also flexible, responding to my own ideas and being supportive as well as giving direction. Technical considerations are worked on as and when they arise. The exercises Jennie gives me I find particularly valuable. Jennie is very good at identifying and analysing my difficulties and short-comings and providing ideas and suggestions about how to improve. As we proceed I can feel the lessons getting more detailed and specific as I learn more.
I feel so far that I have made very good progress (although I don’t know what I expected) – in fact I am astonished at this point at the voice that Jennie has managed to get out of me and I will approach future lessons with her with a renewed confidence and I feel a solid basis to continue.
I am enjoying the journey as well.
Few things give me more pleasure that helping someone to find their voice and I have really appreciated your willingness to be open to the possibility of finding yours'!
