I hold an MMus, performance diploma, and I'm a qualified teacher. I have a doctorate in Music Education and work with various organisations to train instrumental teachers. I regularly give INSET training for Music Education Hubs, and work in Music Education **Contact Detail Removed**. I perform as regularly as I can, and currently play with a chamber ensemble.
I have been teaching flute privately since 2000. I also have taught saxophone privately since 2004. I have many years experience of directing youth and adult ensembles, and have taught in both Primary and Secondary schools as a flute and saxophone teacher. I now work in Higher Education but continue to teach privately.
Music tuition should always start with the learner and be tailored to whatever it is that the learner wishes to do. Exams should be an outcome of learning, not the purpose, and students will only be entered for exams if they wish to take them and they are ready for them. Music tuition should enable the learner to develop their creativity and musicianship alongside the development of their technique. Most of all, music should be at the heart of the lesson.
