Personal Description:

I am a student at the University of Southampton and I am currently undergoing my 4th year in Physics with Maths.
During my time in primary school and secondary school, I was always engaged in musical activities - singing in a choir, playing in wind band, jazz band, youth orchestra, a recorder group.

On the piano, I have performed solos and ensemble pieces in school concerts in the past. Frequently, I was asked to accompany soloists. This task requires excellent co-ordination with the soloist but even more important is my sight-reading skill. I achieved full marks for my grade 8 sight-reading, and I would like to pass this skill on to my students.

I can play the following instruments:
- Piano (grade 8, distinction)
- Oboe (grade 8, merit)
- Saxophone (grade 5 standard)
- Recorder (grade 5 standard)

Tutoring Experience:

Whilst making progress through the piano grades, I was given the task (by my parents!) of providing assistance to my younger siblings with their piano. This was a constant learning curve for me in how to teach someone piano and from this, I gained at least 5 years' experience. Even now, I still give advice to them, regarding techniques and execution.

Whilst at sixth form, I helped 4 classmates with their grade 8 piano, having achieved grade 8 on the piano myself prior to giving them assistance. As a result, they all passed with a merits and distinctions.

Tutoring Approach:

In general, I prefer encouraging the student to explore the classical repertoire. I feel that classical pieces tend to be more technically challenging than contemporary pieces, and will help develop the student's musical capabilities further.

For students looking to take ABRSM exams, the student will learn to play three chosen performance pieces with accuracy and will contribute their own ideas to make it their own.
In addition, the student will frequently practise the technical skills required for each grade, this includes:
- scales
- sight-reading
- aural

I offer half-hour lessons too - the price will simply be half the hourly rate.
