Personal Description:

I am a music student at Cambridge University who is available to teach various musical disciplines during the holidays (Cambridge terms are shorter than other university or school terms - I will be at home for 25 weeks of the year!).
I am friendly, fun and approachable, and will be able to bring out the best in the student as a musician, and will even be able to advise in other musical choices (i.e. buying instruments, selecting reeds, etc.).
As I am not only a performer, but also a composer, academic and music enthusiast, I feel that I will be able to bring many unique ideas to the table, and provide a well-rounded musical education, advising listening in various genres that will enhance the student's musical education.

Tutoring Experience:

I have previously taught several students of widely varying ages a variety of disciplines (clarinet, saxophone and theory), with some of these students going from complete beginners to a Grade IV standard in well under a year of teaching.
Having been taught extensively by a range of teachers, I am well-placed to understand the requirements of a teacher from a student's point of view, and as an academic student myself I can empathise when the problems one may have as a student.

Tutoring Approach:

I focus on fun and enjoyment during tuition, and aim to introduce students to a wide range of music, not just the pieces available on the syllabus. In some instances, I have even written pieces specifically to test particular students - this aims to improve and inspire the musician beyond the confines of the exam syllabus.
Beyond this, should the student wish to take graded exams, I am more than happy to help in this process, but I am a great believer in the worth of being of a 'Grade 6 standard', for example, which takes pressure away from the student and allows for personal growth as a musician. Luckily, training to a 'Grade 6 Standard' allows the student to go for the exam too, but I focus on the journey towards that point, and not on the grade exam itself.
