Jane is a professionally trained and experienced soprano who has sung over the past 25 years with choirs and as a soloist throughout her career, devising and performing solo recitals with her chamber ensemble 'Bellissime', especially in historic and country-house settings. In 2015 she completed a doctorate in music at the University of York. She has recently qualified as a Music Therapist (2019). Jane offers online piano and singing lessons. She is also qualified to teach online English Lang and Lit, History, History of Art, German and French, She offers face to face and online music therapy sessions for both adults and children.
Jane has much experience in working with children and adults, leading and training singing groups in a variety of contexts. She has taught privately and in school. She has six children all of whom are musical and who Jane has encouraged and helped in their individual musical development. She has also taught English privately.
Jane believes that music is first and foremost something to be enjoyed. Her approach is flexible, tailored to the individual, with the goal of drawing out the musical potential and interests of her tutees. It is Jane's hope that lessons will provide pleasure whilst building a sound technique to enable the student to flourish in their chosen musical path. Lessons will include technical exercises and learning new pieces, and where appropriate, aural and sight-reading practice in preparation for exams.
