Personal Description:

MMus (Distinction) from Royal Northern College of Music. Previously undertaken study at the Utrecht Academy of the Arts in the Netherlands during my BMus (Hons) First Class from Newcastle University.

I really enjoy engaging with lots of different kinds of music, whether touring the UK in an Afrobeat group, giving recitals of Renaissance music transcribed for Saxophone or writing original work for a rock jazz trio. Whether you are a keen jazzer or a budding classical Saxophonist, I am keen to engage with your interests and help you to become the musician that you want to be!

I also perform on Electric guitar and have enjoyed playing for BBC Introducing live sessions and recording materials for rock and Afrobeat groups.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience working with young learners on both an individual basis and through running workshops. I have also been a private tutor for casual adult learners, from those who has just started to read music through to lifelong musical hobbyists!

I have taught at my own house and in secondary schools from beginner to post-Grade 8 level.

Tutoring Approach:

I think that nurturing self-confidence and enjoyment are key to anyone learning an instrument. I tailor my teaching towards each individual student in order that they enjoy the progression they are making whilst playing pieces and styles that they want to play alongside improving their technique and musical understanding.

I encourage students to listen widely and try and find records or players that they really enjoy. That way we can talk about what it is that makes them go 'wow' and try to achieve that ourselves in lessons. It's great when a student points out a musician or piece I haven't heard before, too, because we can delve in to it together!
