Information About Jamie - Muswell Hill teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Jamie:
My name is Jamie and I have lived in Muswell Hill for over 6 years. I am a music producer, writer and mixer with 15 years industry experience. I started out playing in a signed band (called Battle) who released records and toured the world. Since then I have produced/mixed records, including working with The 1975, Nolwenn Leroy, The Rifles, Florence + The Machine, Jordan Mackampa and many more.
I love most styles of music, but my favourites are pop, indie, rock, folk, soul, house and garage, grime and hip hop.
I am personable, approachable, patient and love explaining things; watching a student's reaction when they get their head around a new concept is such a thrill!
I work in both Logic X and Pro Tools, and use a huge amount of plugins, samples and software libraries, as well as playing guitar, bass and some keyboards. I use a lot of drum programming and sound design in my productions.
I have been a part-time lecturer and module leader at ICMP for 3 years; a leading music college in Kilburn (part of UEL). I teach music composition and production at undergraduate level, as well as helping my students with their language and writing skills for their essays. I have taught on the following degree programmes at ICMP: The BA in Contemporary Music Production, The BA in Songwriting, The BA in Creative Musicianship as well as delivering lectures and masterclasses over a variety of programmes including Masters and Summer Schools.
I also give private tuition at my studio in Hornsey.
My goal as a private tutor is to help you to get the best from yourself creatively and be on-hand to offer detailed feedback to your songs, mixes and productions. This is often known as artist development, and is a really important route in honing what you do to carve out your own niche/sound within a noisy and crowded music industry! However, I am equally happy guiding students who are not thinking of their music as a career choice at this time and are just enjoying creating.
For me, teaching is about getting the right balance between the technical side (for example: EQs, compression, samplers, programming etc.) and the philosophical/holistic approach to creating (for example: the headspace required to write music; how to build confidence as an artist; exploring the various channels to get your music heard). When teaching production and mixing, I like to give an overview of how sound works - for example how EQ frequencies correlate to musical notation; as I believe that always offering real-world context is important to make the class relatable and engaging.
Overall, I love to help people realise their potential, so I am flexible as to the approach we take together.
