Personal Description:

From the age of two Jamie was fascinated with the Trumpet, its sound, its and look and most of all its ability to command attention above all other instruments. As the son of a dancer Jamie has always been surrounded by the arts and he began at a young age to sing and play the piano. On his seventh birthday his wish to play the Trumpet was granted when he was given his first Trumpet by his grand parents. At the same time he also gained a place at Westminster Abbey Choir School where he sung for five years as a chorister. During his time at the Abbey Jamie developed a strong ability to listen, learn and adapt to his musical surroundings which still serves him well today and he is very grateful for the training his ear received at this young age. This early frequent exposure to high quality musical performance meant he quickly became adept at playing back musical lines accurately, finding harmonies and voices along with gaining a well developed sense of pitch. These skills have helped Jamie to become highly adaptable and quick to learn in many different musical environments making him extremely versatile.

Whilst at Westminster Abbey Jamie was involved in countless high profile performances on a regular basis including several commercial CD recordings, live television and radio appearances, tours to Ukraine and Russia where he performed in The Kremlin live on Russian state television. He is also heard on the soundtrack of the feature film Braveheart which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Shortly before completing his time at choir school he also sung at the first night of the proms singing Mahler's Eighth Symphony. This was in conjunction with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Singers under the direction of Andrew Davies. In 1995 the choir was nominated for best classical album at the Grammy Awards.

Upon leaving Westminster Abbey Jamie really discovered his love for the Trumpet, having first taken lessons with Christopher Pigrim he discovered popular music when he began to have lessons with Paul Newton. Paul opened up the Trumpet world to Jamie helping him discover many musical styles and genres and fueling Jamie's desire to play Trumpet professionally. He continued to play the Trumpet and sing alongside each other whilst at The University of Surrey studying Trumpet with Alistair Mackie and gaining a choral scholarship at Guildford Cathedral.

During his time at university Jamie took an active interest in a wide variety of musical styles. Discovering the music of Stevie Wonder had a profound influence on his plans as a professional musician. Jamie had finally found his true calling in popular music and has pursued performance opportunities with bands of all shapes and sizes featuring on several commercial recordings. Jamie's great passion for popular music means he has worked for many function bands up and down the UK including The Alex and Phil Extravaganza, Brando, Uncle Funk, Souled Out, Souled on Funk, Glitterball, Helium Soul, HoneyGene, Legacy, Four Thousand Islands and Lady Light backing Il Regazzi.

More recently Jamie has wokred for Disney Cruise line on one of their cruise liners the Disney Wonder as a Trumpet and Keyboard player with Super Fi the resident house band. This involved travelling over to the USA and joinging the ship in Los Angeles where it sailed down the Mexican Riviera to Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. The band played sets every day varying in styles from disco to top 40's hits. Jamie's skills as a 'doubling' musician were very well received and he continues to develop his ability on both instruments so he can remain a versatile musician.

Jamie also regularly plays with Gosport Solent Brass band where he was formerly principal cornet. He has also played soprano corner at the National Brass Band Championships. Four Bars Rest, a popular brass band website **Contact Detail Removed**ed "Crisp stop playing" when describing Jamie's efforts during the contest.

Having left university Jamie went on to study for a masters degree at Trinity College of Music, London in Trumpet Performance where he studied with Andy Hendrie. He used this time to develop his technique whilst working professionally on many different musical projects expanding his repertoire in both classical music, contemporary, jazz and popular styles.

Jamie is also in demand as a session musician having most recently recorded for Brando on their debut album The Masterplan and is due to be part of their music video in the coming months. China Town Arts asked Jamie to work on their production of Piccadilly Revisited recording trumpet parts for their international tour of Asia after performing their work at the Royal Opera House Linbury Studio Theatre in Covent Garden.

Musical theatre is a great passion for Jamie and he spends a great deal of his time performing in shows and musicals all over the UK. This is perhaps Jamie's favourite work and he really enjoys working in a pit environment. Jamie is comfortable doubling on shows and where necessary has also rearranged the brass parts as needed. Jamie worked on a production of The Drowsy Chaperone in 2010 that was nominated for ten seperate awards including best music and best off west end production in the Off West End awards.

Jamie has appeared on television playing Flugel Horn in the last series of Big Brother to be screened on Channel 4 during one of the tasks set for contestants.

Most recently Jamie has worked for Disney Cruise Line and P&O on cruise ships as a keyboard and trumpet player on board the Disney Wonder cruise ship Jamie was voted Musician of the Year 2012. He continues to be an active performer.

Much of Jamie's time is spent as a freelance musician playing in functions and shows alongside private teaching and arranging music. He is also able to sing backing vocals in bands and plays keyboard for many of the function bands he works for. Big bands also play a vital role in Jamie's musical work and he can regularly be seen playing for many of the London based big bands including Hot Orange. Jamie likes to keep his work varied and is very versatile in his music making meaning he can adapt to almost any musical situation without worry. In the future he wants to expand his work on shows and session work and is currently writing his first solo album.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons

Having a priviledged musical education is something that I'm extremely grateful for and I am keen to pass on what I've learnt to students of all ages through the Trumpet. I always makes sure that lessons are fun and content is guided by discussion with you meaning lessons can be structured and productive.

There's nothing worse than having a teacher that doesn't listen to what you're saying you need. I'm very concious of the fact that everyone has different goals and aspirations. Maybe you just want to learn to play a tune or you like playing in a particular style. I'm not going to force you to do anything you don't want to do. What I can do is make sure through our lessons you have all the tools and skills you need to be the best you can be at what you want to do.

I like to be fliexible and understand that not everyone can commit to regular lessons, but on the flip side I also appreciate that some people like to be more organised in their learning.

Weekly lessons are great for those people who like lots of contact time and prefer regular guidance in their playing. This type of lesson offers the student the best opportunity to learn quickly whilst seeing a clear week on week improvement. We will work together to establish weekly goals.

Monthly/bi-monthly etc. less frequent lessons are perfect for players who like to do their own thing but have perhaps stumbled accross a problem they can't fix. I can give them a push in the right direction and they can leave knowing that they've got several answers and ideas to put into practice, experiment with, and improve their own self-learning skills.

Intensive lessons. Do you have an important performance, audition or exam coming up and you feel you need some more intensive and regular guidance before-hand? If the answer is yes then we can arrange more regular lessons in the run up to important musical events where we can specifically target your short term goals. Mastering that tricky phrase can seem like an impossible task if you're running out of time so these lessons aim to give you the support and re-assurance you need along with the tools and skills to be able to achieve your aspirations when time is short.

Most importantly with our lessons I want to make sure that you get as much enjoyment as possible out of playing your instrument. I like to show my students that improving doesn't have to be difficult or boring and I want all my students to love playing as much as I do.
