Information About James - Tower Hamlets teacher
This is how 2 referees rated James:
I'm a professional recorder player and teacher, alumni of the Royal Academy of Music, offering lessons in Recorder and Music Theory lessons. Originally from Cambridge, I moved to London for my degree and have been teaching here ever since 7 years ago.
I have over 7 years teaching experience, in one to one, and group lessons privately but also in masterclass and school environments. I teach all ages and abilities and follow the ABRSM exam syllabus. I've taught at masterclasses in the South of France with Atarah Ben Tovim MBE, on baroque style and ornamentation for recorder and flute students too as well as working in outreach projects at primary schools in London.
I have a friendly yet focussed teaching style, with clear goals in mind, focussing on improving core technique whilst expanding knowledge of repertoire and educating about the period, context in which music was written and performed and the key components of becoming more musically aware, hence improving overall musicianship as well as more specific instrumental skills. I try and make my lessons enjoyable for the student and varied as it's about inspiring them to want to be a better musician and to practise.
In recorder lessons I teach complete beginners to advanced students preparing for degree auditions and enjoy all stages of musical development.
I teach the graded ABRSM Theory examinations up to grade 5, enabling students to progress onto the higher instrumental grades. I teach broad range of repertoire - from medieval to contemporary styles of music, including medieval, renaissance, baroque and avant garde compositions.
