Personal Description:

I am an outgoing and friendly individual with a creative approach to music tuition. I graduated with a degree in music from Magdalen College, Oxford in 2012, where I was a choral scholar, singing countertenor in the chapel choir. As a boy, I sang in the chorus for the Royal Opera House. I learnt piano from the age of 7, completely all grades before university. I then completed a masters degree from King's College, London in 2014, in contemporary composition. I have gone on to compose contemporary classical music as well as taking part in music theatre, playing the bass guitar in bands bands, keeping an ever-expanding vinyl collection with an avid interest in music of all styles.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching singing and piano for over 6 years now, since graduation, to children from aged 4-18. I have successfully helped many children through their ABRSM Grades, I to VIII, and Jazz grades I-V. I have also helped many children pass their grades V theory.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a strong collaborative relationship between teacher and student is absolutely fundamental, and I work hard at maintaining positive and engaging relationships with my students at all times. My goal is to encourage every student to stretch themselves to the capacity of their ability, and to cover whatever we are learning together comprehensively, and in a creative and engaging manner.

I have a holistic approach to music teaching- I try to incorporate performance, theory, listening and compositional elements in my lessons whenever possible.

I recognise that different children approach music from different angles. I am therefore very happy to tailor my teaching style to suit the individual needs of each student, rather than enforcing a rigid, preexisting framework. Some prefer to learn notation and theory, others prefer to learn by ear. Some prefer classical music, others jazz or pop. I am open and love all types of music, and will happily teach what suits each child.

Through my lessons, I aim to nurture each student's a pride and confidence in their own abilities, regardless of the achievements of their peers.
