I've played guitar and piano for over 20 years. I started out playing various styles of music on electric and acoustic steel-string guitars, but eventually ended up dedicating myself to classical guitar, falling in love with its sound and repertoire. In 2010 I received a degree in music from Goldsmiths College, University of London, specialising in classical guitar and composition, and was awarded first class honours. Whilst at Goldsmiths I was taught guitar by Charles Ramirez (also professor of guitar at the Royal College of Music).
As well as playing classical guitar, I'm also active as a composer, and studied privately with Kevin Volans, Walter Zimmermann and Laurence Crane. I also co-curate a London-based concert series for new minimal and experimental music called 840.
In addition to studying music, I also have a masters degree in philosophy from UCL.
I currently live in Norwich and work part-time as a **Contact Detail Removed** assistant at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich.
I hold a recent full DBS check.
Since graduating from university in 2010, I have taught a range of different ages and abilities in one-to-one tuition privately around London.
I specialise in teaching classical guitar. What's great about classical guitar is that it gives you a solid technique that can easily be transferred to other styles of guitar playing, as well as a grounding in notation and music theory, which are key to a well-rounded education in music.
The main way for me to ensure that lessons are enjoyable is that, first and foremost, you're learning music you like. This way all the hard work of learning an instrument is an enjoyable challenge rather than a chore. I'll also always be sure to explain all the technical aspects of music theory that underpin the pieces you learn.
I can come to you for lessons if you live within the general vicinity of Norwich, and I welcome complete beginners, as well as those with previous experience of other styles of guitar who wish to learn classical music.
