Tutoring Experience:

James has been teaching drum kit in the Southampton and Hampshire area since 2009. He has taught a whole range of ages from 6 to 65, and abilities from complete beginners, having never touched a drum set, to advanced and professional players.

Taught BTEC, Foundation Degree and Degree level Music and performance courses at the Academy of Music and Sound 2011-2013.

Peripatetic drum tutor for the Southampton Music Service since November 2013.

Teaching privately since 2009.

Tutoring Approach:

Virtually all styles and genres covered, techniques, reading music and notation, theory, groove and feel, showmanship, musicianship, improvisation and more.

I cater my lessons specifically to the students needs. The first lesson is often spent getting to know aspects such as musical interests, current ability, and what the student would like to get out of lessons, and I aim to dive straight in to teaching at an appropriate level.

I always encourage playing and listening to as much music as is humanly possible and practise time between lessons is absolutely essential.
