Information About James - Canterbury teacher - (2 reviews)
This is how a referee rated James:
I am a Professional session drummer/Teacher and have not only worked in many top London recording studios for many artists/film/tv work but have also been the drummer in London's West End musicals as well as a touring musician in live bands.
I also play clinics/masterclasses for Stagg Cymbals as an endorsed artist.
I am a full-time professional musician and have been playing/teaching for a living for the past 8 years, and have been playing drums for 20 years now. I am a multi-instrumental musician playing 9 melodic instruments as well as drums, so being a well rounded musician has always been a big focus of mine.
I Studied at Drumtech, the top contemporary music school in europe where i first did the national diploma, and then a master performance (equivalent to a masters degree) and not only got taught by some of the best drummers in the world, but also some of the best teachers.
I have also written tuition columns for magazines.
I have played with Session members of Robert plant, Jimmy page, Eric Clapton, Phil collins, Gary Moore, Jomeriqui, Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Gravil, Jasmin Ava band, Alarieks, and many more.
I have taught Privately and for Schools for the last 8 years, run clinics, workshops and masterclasses for between 4 and 30 students, written columns for magazines and websites and run a very successful and popular YouTube channel which has tuition based videos as well as demonstrations of equipment and performances.
Music is a passion and i think it should be treated and taught as one. It should always be fun, and should be tailored from student to student. I use my own experience, being taught by some of the best drummers in the world to pass those lessons on to my own students.
Being multi-Instrumental I regularly play along on guitar, bass keyboards, and drums with my students to teach musical interaction so that you can learn to play with others, not just drum alone!
I have a purpose built studio designed to teach a 10 minute walk away from Canterbury West train station and the centre of town, with full P.A, my own professional drum kits, guitars, amps and recording facilities.
I change my approach for each student and teach based on their own needs and wants. You learn what you want to learn, and go in the direction you want to and i am able to cover all styles, all techniques, and all ability levels.
I am able to teach speciallist techniques such as double bass drum playing, traditional grip and drum maintenance and tuning.
I use my recording facilities to record students so that not only can they gain recording studio experience, but also listen back to their own playing and see how they're doing to chart progress or get new inspiration. we can also work on recording projects to make songs for portfolio's, GCSES, A levels, or just for fun!

The studio was also fantastic. The perfect environment for learning drums!
At the end of these lessons I walked away with a new and detailed practice plan, hundreds of drumless backing tracks, an understanding of the importance of techniques and rudiments, and more confidence in my drumming. I was very happy with the lessons!
