Hi there, I'm James and I am a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and of the Royal Northern College of Music. Originally I herald from Whitley Bay on the North East coast near Newcastle upon Tyne, where I attended the Sage Gateshead Weekend School. Whilst at the Royal Conservatoire I was a student of Robert Irvine, and at the RNCM I studied with Victoria Simonsen. Additionally I have received masterclass tuition from Johannes Goritzki, Alexander Baillie, Miklos Perenyi, Hannah Roberts and Louise Hopkins amongst others. As a performer I have experience performing with the Halle, Opera North, BBC Philharmonic, Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Dunedin Consort as a baroque player.
I have around 10 years of experience teaching in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, providing tailor made tuition to a range of ages and experiences. Students have ranged from children and students to adult learners and retirees.
My tuition is very much tailored to the type of learning experience desired by the pupil, I can offer a casual learning experience for those wishing to play for fun, or if you are more serious about taking your playing to the next level, I can offer a more intensive programme aimed at improving technique, musicianship and theoretical knowledge. Lesson scheduling can be flexible, and within reason I am happy to travel to you for teaching.
