Information About James - Gateshead teacher
This is how 3 referees rated James:
I've been playing electric bass for 10 years and upright bass for 4 years. I've studied under some of the north east's finest bass players and gained a degree from Sunderland University majoring in performance as well as studying composition, theoretical improvisation, production and many other facets of music.
Over the last five years I've played in rock, blues and soul bands that have toured the U.K. and played to crowds of over 10,000 people. I've also played lots of jazz as a member of a trio and many other line-ups, including international jazz festival performances. I also play and sing in blues bands, many function bands as well as doing theatre work and larger ensemble work.
I've been teaching privately for 7 years now as well as teaching in primary and secondary schools and music centres across the North East. As I have had several tutors myself, I have learned a lot about teaching and each approach to it. Realising how I like to be taught and picking up tips on how others like to learn.
Enjoyment and flexibility. These two principles are key to my approach. Music is supposed to be fun so I always keep this in mind when teaching. I want the student to enjoy the lesson as much as I always do.
Flexibility: This is important to me in many respects. It includes teaching time and location (wherever/whenever the student feels best), the genre of music the student wants to develop in, the outcome of each lesson and overall objective over a period of time, how hard each student wants to work and many other small but critical factors.
