Personal Description:

I am very much a people person and I take real pleasure in interacting with and helping others. Music has always played a large part in my life. At the age of seven, I became a chorister at Salisbury Cathedral and sang in the choir for five years- this helped me to develop perfect pitch. I was made Head Chorister in my final year and I sang several times as a solo treble, including in a performance where I sang alongside the Royal Marines and two adult choirs in Salisbury Cathedral. I play cello and piano, and achieved a grade eight distinction in both instruments when I was fourteen. In 2016, I was awarded a major music scholarship at Bedales School, and also started studying every Saturday at Trinity Laban as a junior student. My most enjoyable musical experience was playing cello in the National Youth Musical Theatre in the West End in summer 2019. Incorporating music and helping others is my dream job- possibly a music therapist.

Tutoring Experience:

In terms of teaching, I first privately taught music instrumentally when I was sixteen in which I helped two students improve their skills, both musically and technically on the piano. I currently teach piano and cello. Having been taught by an extremely professional and well regarded teacher, I am able to deliver a high standard of teaching, especially technically. From Sep 2021, I will also be acting as an Assistant Teacher of Music at a prep school in Surrey and I cannot wait to assist the running of the Music Department, specifically helping with theory and aural musical training in smaller groups, and accompaniment work for concerts and exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I have had a fair share of music teachers myself, and I have learnt just how important it is to feel comfortable with your teacher in order to make progress. Above all skills and experience, I would say my creativity, sensitivity, kindness and work ethic are my best qualities. Having particularly struggled myself during the transition into boarding school, I know just how much the behaviour of those around you make a difference and music allowed me to connect with my inner self.
