Personal Description:

I am currently studying at the Royal College of Music, and have played the flute for 10 years. Prior to studying here, I spent two years at Chethams School of Music as well as two at Birmingham Junior Conservatoire on Saturdays. Thanks to my time at Chethams I have participated in many masterclasses with highly regarded flute players such as Katherine Bryan and Adam Walker, as well as working on a regular basis with an accompanist, giving me lots of experience with solo playing. Orchestrally, I have had the pleasure of playing in the National Youth Orchestra and Wind Orchestras in previous years as well as projects at Chethams, ranging from Haydns Creation to Stravinskys firebird!

Tutoring Experience:

I have had lots of experience with younger musicians. A couple years ago I was able to work with my first flute teacher for some time, sitting in on his lessons and inputting often. This really fuelled my love for teaching and inspiring younger flautists! I also have had experience teaching larger groups of children, for example with the NYO, we would have 'inspire' weekends and go into schools, teaching and leading workshops on the works we were playing, and helping younger musicians. Also at the RCM I have participated in 'Sparks' workshops, aimed at getting teaching experience and again, working with young people. On a more personal note, I have aided my younger brother through his piano tutoring, and he has recently got a grade 2 merit! It is inspiring and rewarding work to help people progress. I have also worked (non musically) at kids camps in leisure centres for the past year, and have a real understanding with how is best to work with children and the best ways to help them flourish.

Tutoring Approach:

Being a student still myself, I like to approach my teaching by saying that me and the student really are in the same boat! It can be daunting when a teacher seems so much older and more experienced. I hope to inspire younger players by showing them what the flute can do, and that if they work hard it isn't far off. I have a lot of experience with playing and as I am still growing and learning as a player myself, I can help give students a real idea of the music industry and the years ahead of them. I can aid all levels of player, be it beginner or a more advanced student.
