Personal Description:

My name's Izzy and I am a trumpeter based in South West London. I am currently working towards my Postgraduate Certificate of Education at UCL's Institute of Education and have an up to date DBS check (available on request). Following my graduation from the Guildhall School, I have dedicated my time to working as a performing musician, with a focus on music education. I believe that music is a vital skill, improving academic work and self-discipline, as well as being enjoyable and social. These are but a few reasons why I feel compelled to share my knowledge and skills with the students I teach.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching the trumpet and music theory privately since 2016. After graduating from the Guildhall School, I accepted the offer to work as Coordinator of Instrumental Music at Taunton School, where I taught brass, music theory and GCSE composition. This experience sparked my passion for academic teaching, inspiring me to enrol on UCL's Secondary Music PGCE course. My first PGCE placement (October 2019 - January 2020) afforded me the opportunity to teach a diverse range of genres including A Capella, Musical Theatre and Gamelan, as well as the chance to create and lead a school brass ensemble.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about sharing my experience with aspiring musicians. I believe that creativity thrives in a safe and positive environment, which is why I feel it is imperative to bring enthusiasm, empathy and patience to every lesson. For some students, grades can be an incentive to work towards, which is why I ensure that I am up-to-date with the ABRSM and Trinity exam syllabus. I also believe in the social benefits of playing in an ensemble, so I often encourage my students to play either in a duo, small ensemble or orchestra.
