Personal Description:
Hello all and thank you for taking the time to read my profile!
I graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2018 where I studied saxophone with Rob Buckland and Carl Raven. At the RNCM I studied classical music but had a lot of experience playing a variety of genres such as Jazz, Pop, Folk and many more.
Since arriving in Manchester in 2014, I performed in venues such as the Bridgewater hall, and played with the RNCM Big Band, Session Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, and many chamber groups.
In the past 7 years I have been on European tours with wind bands, big bands and saxophone orchestras.
I has also volunteered with associations such as ‘LIME Music for Health’ and ‘Music Action International’. LIME takes musicians in to Manchester Children’s Hospital, where they play to patients on the wards. MAI is a music based charity that work with refugees who have survived torture. I always enjoyed these experiences very much as I got to work with others and build relationships in combination with making music together.
Where I am now and what I can provide:
I am currently living in Berlin so would only be available for online lessons. When booking lesson we will have to bare in mind the hour time difference. In addition to this, I currently have my soprano saxophone only in Germany but this should not effect teaching the basic saxophone techniques such as embouchure and correct hand positioning. In addition to this I also provide singing lessons. With singing I have the same approach described below with how I will accommodate lessons to individuals preferences.
Tutoring Experience:
I have a lot of experience working with young children during college as well as after graduation. From assisting with performing arts based projects in primary schools to teaching clarinet weekly at Stockport Music School for 2 years. Stockport Music School was a great lace to start teaching children from ages 6-12. The school appeals to children from all different backgrounds as they only charge £1 per week for music tuition therefore money doesn’t deprive them from reaching their full potential. Since graduation, apart from playing gigs, the experience I have had working with children has been in primary schools, assisting early year classes and on occasions visiting a school for disabled children in Leicester where I shadowed the music teacher and assisted in her classes.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that each student is unique in the way they interpret music, therefore I will tailor classes to the individuals needs and teaching styles in which they respond to best. I will teach the basics and revisit the important techniques to enable the most efficient progress. These important exercises will consist of long notes, scales, and sight reading. Having patience on both sides is key when starting a new instrument as well as establishing a good teacher-pupil relationship. I will also give pupils tips on how best to organise their practise if this is something they struggle with. It is crucial that each student enjoys playing and enjoys their lessons to have the motivation to put in the practising hours. I strive for students to have the freedom to choose what they would like to focus on, whether it be a specific piece or a type of genre and I will accommodate to their musical interests.
