Personal Description:

Hello! I am a violinist studying for a Master's with Ofer Falk at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I did my undergraduate degree at the Royal Academy of Music with Sophie Langdon, and I also have the LRAM teaching diploma. I started teaching in September 2018.

I am originally from York, and attended St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh for three years before starting in London. I have a lot of orchestral experience, including playing in the National Youth Orchestras of Great Britain and Scotland, as well as lots of concerts and courses with the string quartet I played in at the Academy.

I learnt the piano at school as far as ABRSM Grade 8, so I can accompany beginners. I also teach beginner piano, but am currently not taking any new piano students.

Having benefited from brilliant teachers since I was 5, I would love to give something back! I am happy to tutor anyone of any age, so do get in touch if you are interested in some lessons! Please note the availability shown on my profile is very general, as being a conservatoire student my schedule is not the same each day or week. However, I am happy to be flexible and work around obstacles!

Given how COVID-19 has introduced us all to Zoom, I am open to the idea of teaching violin lessons online where necessary. Having said that, starting beginners online, particularly children, is unwise, so in-person is much better!

Please include your location when you message me, and also please note that you need to have a violin of your own before we start - I don't have any spares to lend!

Tutoring Experience:

I have the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music teaching diploma, over three years of experience teaching private violin and piano pupils, have tutored on the course Yorchestra and at Halcyon International School.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe lessons should be fun, positive and approachable. The Academy's LRAM course has provided me with knowledge of approaches such as Alexander Technique, Dalcroze, Kodaly and Suzuki (I am not fully trained or qualified in these - however, I can incorporate the principles into my teaching!)

I use the teaching books Fiddle Time Starters/Joggers when starting off beginner pupils, as well as writing some of my own exercises out on manuscript paper for the pupil where necessary.
