Personal Description:

I am passionate about showing students of all ages the joys of playing the drum kit, marimba,
xylophone and vibraphone and a wide variety of other percussion instruments. It is very rewarding to
view the confidence and pleasure that can be derived from playing in both solo and
ensemble situations. I believe that teaching should be fun and informative, and I try to
really work out what makes my students tick, so that I can get the absolute maximum
out of them and also give them the maximum from myself. I can teach virtually any
genre of music, as I have a vast amount of experience as a classical and rock/pop/jazz
musician, and I am also up to speed with the latest music software, including loop
stations, ableton live and sample pads. I have performed across the world as a session
musician, from Australia to Uruguay, and I like to think that I can use my knowledge of
performance to inspire the young people to want to play concerts and to create their
own music.

Artists I have performed with include:
Florence Welch (Florence and the Machine)
The Irrepressibles
Kate Tempest
The Heritage Orchestra
Katrina and The Waves

I have a full DBS certificate and Full PLI (public liability insurance)

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching Drum kit, Tuned and Untuned Percussion, Timpani and World Percussion for the past 16 years since graduating from Guildhall in 2004. I also have been leading workshops on a wide variety of instruments for the last ten years, both on a local and a national level.

Tutoring Approach:

I want my lessons to be as enjoyable and exciting as possible. I usually encourage pupils to take the Trinity Rock and Pop exams, alongside learning a different own choice song each week, but I am also happy to teach people to play on a casual basis. I am also a highly experienced Percussion soloist, so I am able to teach advanced pupils how to play Percussion concertos on both multi percussion and on the marimba.
