Information About Humphry - Cranbrook teacher - (4 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Humphry:
I am an experienced and enthusiastic cellist and natural and systematic teacher, and teach adult beginners, improvers and adult returners for pleasure and for exams where required. I am a cello maker and can advise on selection and setting up of instruments. I have a large repertoire and though busy I practice enthusiastically at least an hour a day.
I have inspired a number of students to take up and continue with the cello to a high level. I am very systematic and provide firm foundations for efficient self-study and solutions to many common problems at all levels.
Start out right with sound technique! Enjoy it. Learn to count and to be a good listener, so that you can play well with accompaniment and in ensemble.
I aim to inspire and encourage by example and by developing effective practice methods and musical appreciation, at any age and any level.

As an adult returning to the Cello I needed some help setting up my old neglected instrument and was low in confidence. Humphry immediately put me at ease and has inspired me to push myself and play with a new confidence. Lessons are relaxed with an emphasis on enjoyment and exploration of technique. I have had many instrumental lessons over the years where I have felt like I was on a conveyor belt of students, but it is the exact opposite with Humphry. I have not met anyone with so much passion, knowledge, enthusiasm for their instrument and willing to helping others to get the most from their playing. Humphry has set up my old cello so that it sounds better and is easier to play than it ever was. He has also helped me to select a new bow to maximise the sound and quality of my playing. He is knowledgable not only in the playing and teaching of the instrument but also the setting up and manufacturing if the relevant parts which has an extra layer to the teacher/ pupil experience.
