Personal Description:

Hello! I am a professional musician with postgraduate qualifications, dedicated to teaching people of all ages and abilities, with over 20 years' performing and teaching experience. I have taught higher education students at the Royal Northern College of Music, as well as primary and secondary school aged children at the RNCM Junior department, and younger children at home.

I have performed at prestigious venues, such as Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and St. James’ Piccadilly, London. I performed Beethoven’s fourth piano concerto with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra and Berg’s concerto for piano and violin. Whilst at St. Mary’s Music School, I won the National Mozart Competition and came 3rd in Young Pianist of the Year. This said, I have equally enjoyed giving recitals at some of the humbler music clubs around the country; it is an honour and privilege to share music and meet people from all walks of life.

Tutoring Experience:

After gaining a postgraduate diploma in advanced performance from the Royal Northern College of Music, I was invited to be a Junior Fellow, which involved teaching their composers and vocal students. Following this year, I became a part time member of staff and remained there for 11 years. During this time I also taught primary and secondary school aged children at the Junior (RNCM) department, as well as younger children - and people of retirement age - at home. I taught degree level students Leeds University, and had students who performed the Berg sonata and Debussy's 'En blanc et Noir'.
I have always loved teaching privately in my own home, and began doing this whilst studying for 'A' levels. I hope I shall continue facilitating others' in their learning; it is a privilege to be alongside another on their journey of discovery, progress and achievement.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been teaching for over 20 years and have gained a wealth of experience from a wide range of pupils with diverse needs, strengths and challenges. I am compassionate, easy to be with, and can relate to pupils wherever they are in their learning journey. I am strategic and can see what needs to be worked into ones playing in order to be able to play complicated pieces in a beautiful way.
I believe the best about my pupils and frequently see them achieve more than they expected, developing the necessary piano skills and deepening their love of music and learning. I cultivate a safe environment where people are free to make mistakes. I can assure anyone that should they give lessons a go, they will have fun and enjoy!
