Personal Description:
Helen is a 27 year old classical and contemporary clarinettist with a difference. She aspires to make classical music current and appeal to a younger generation through musical performance, composition and teaching; her three main passions.
"I like to define myself as a crossover artist, specializing in contemporary/classical performance. As a multi reed player, I am experienced in the recorder, flute and saxophone but it is the clarinet that I specialize in.
My career is split fairly equally between performing and teaching at the moment. At the age of 27, I have been performing professionally for 10 years. Some of my highlights include performing to an audience of 2,000 people as a soloist in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, touring Europe, visiting Spain, France, Italy and Holland with my clarinet trio SHE and touring with the pop-synth star of the 80's, Marc Almond. Awards that I have obtained include Liverpool's Young Instrumentalist of the Year (2010) and silver place in The East Coast Musician of the Year (2014).
Tutoring Experience:
As a woodwind tutor, I have taught across Merseyside and Yorkshire for the past 7 years. I have experience in teaching across primary schools and secondary schools as well as in private music centres or from my own home. Throughout my career so far, I have also worked in community settings delivering music workshops to groups of people. Most of my experience in the community has been with adults suffering from mental health related illnesses and more recently, dementia. It has been so rewarding to deliver weekly sessions to these people and is one of my favourite aspects of being a freelance musician.
I am also a popular workshop leader and ensemble coach across the North West of England. I work heavily in schools directing large ensembles such as wind bands and orchestras. My proudest moment was when my year 7 and 8 training band won their first competition in The Wirral Music Festival in 2013.
Tutoring Approach:
I will cater my lessons towards the specific needs of you or your child.
I like a personalized approach ensuring that the student is learning and having fun along the way.
