Welcome! I am an award-winning pianist, composer and arranger working in and around Bristol. I originally trained as a classical pianist with Kate Miller, during which time I gave recitals around the UK and in Europe. I then went on to study accompaniment at Bristol University with Helen Reid alongside a Masters in Composition for Film and Television.
My recent accompaniment credits include work for The Royal Opera House (2018), The Actors’ Workshop (ongoing) and The Dunsford Singers (2017-2019). I also work as a session and pit musician. My session work includes an upcoming series for Magic Radio, and my theatre credits include Robin Hood (ASDS - Keys II - 2020) and Beauty and the Beast (ELTC - Keys II - 2018/19), as well as numerous amateur and university shows (The Phantom of the Opera - Keys I - 2015, Evita - Keys III - 2014). I was the principle pianist of the semi-professional Exeter University Jazz Orchestra for 2 years and I have performed upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club.
I have been teaching privately for 3 years and I have experience teaching piano and composition to both children and adults. I have taught a range of levels from total beginners to gigging musicians looking to improve.
I offer fun and motivating lessons to all levels with an emphasis on creativity and expression. I encourage improvisation in my lessons and am a great believer in the importance of making mistakes and learning from them. I am careful not to stick to one method for all students and always teach in a style that plays to the individual’s strengths.
After every lesson I provide all students with a detailed list of practice suggestions and recap of the lesson, and they also have access to their own personal Google Drive folder with useful recordings, PDFs and other materials.
All of my teaching is online for the moment via Zoom/Skype/FaceTime. I offer your first lesson for free, if you are interested in trying out lessons or would like to find out more I would love to hear from you!
