Personal Description:

I'm a friendly and approachable guitarist who has been playing for 11 years and has played in bands for almost a decade. I play pop, rock, indie, blues, folk, funk and soul, and currently play guitar (and sing) in a Bristol-based band. Whether you are looking to start learning guitar, can already play but are looking to improve your skills, or are working towards grades, I can work with you to help meet your goals and learn what you want to learn at a pace that suits you.

Tutoring Experience:

I began as a self-taught guitarist in 2010, learning the basics by ear listening to records and joining a band in 2013. In 2015, I began studying at the University of Bristol, where I lived with other guitarists and started taking lessons to improve my technique and understanding of theory. Over the years, I have taught friends how to play at a beginner level, and have immersed myself in a range of styles and approaches to learning music.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning to play music is a deeply rewarding experience. To learn effectively, you need to feel a real interest in what you're learning that motivates you to progress, push your boundaries and develop as a player. Everyone has different musical preferences and styles, and accomodating these differences is at the core of good teaching. I shape my lessons around the type of music you enjoy, approaching techniques, theory & practice in a way that works for you and drives forward your playing.

I'll start our lessons by asking what kind of music you enjoy, what your goals are, and what you can currently play. I'll ask about how you practice and how much time you spend playing, and if you can already play, I'll ask to watch you playing to get an accurate idea of what kind of player you are. We'll plan our lessons around your ideal practice schedule, working at a pace that suits you and making sure you have time to get your teeth into new material. I'll make sure you feel engaged with what you're learning, and will support your progress towards your goals, keeping our sessions productive and engaging.
