Personal Description:

* ZOOM/ONLINE SESSIONS AVAILABLE DURING LOCKDOWN * Hello! I am a freelance Singer, Songwriter and Vocal Coach, living and working in Milton Keynes. I specialise in helping my students find their own voice, nurture their passion for music, and to expand and improve their performance skills in a safe and relaxed environment.

Having graduated with a first-class degree in Music (with Italian) from the University of Birmingham, I have since gone on to perform widely in a variety of spheres, from choral and operatic to rock and jazz. Under the artist name Gwen and the Good Thing, I have performed on the BBC Introducing stages at Glastonbury, Wilkestock and Standon Calling Festivals, sung live on BBC Three Counties Radio, and played at iconic London venues such as the O2 Academy Islington, the Borderline Soho and Camden Assembly.

As part of my Music degree, I also studied paper and studio composition under Vic Hoyland and Jonty Harrison, and now predominantly write pop music for myself and other artists.

After completing my degree in Music, I went on to gain a Masters in Stage and Events Management from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. My Stage Management career has revolved around my love of contemporary music and opera. I have worked frequently with the Royal Opera House, Aldeburgh Music and Music Theatre Wales, with whom I have toured internationally and have been involved in the premieres of several contemporary operas.

Tutoring Experience:

Alongside my output as an artist, I also work professionally as a singing teacher based in Milton Keynes. I tutor vocal students of all ages across a wide range of genres, focusing on technique as well as performance in a friendly and relaxed environment.

If you are interested in expanding your own musical knowledge or experimenting with writing your own music, I can also assist you with your own songwriting and music theory studies.

Since 2018, I have worked as a vocal tutor for the Rock Project Milton Keynes, tutoring individuals and groups, from primary school age through to adults. In addition, I have a great deal of experience working with individuals on the Autism spectrum, with learning disabilities, behavioural disorders and with physical disabilities through my work in a special educational needs school.

I have undergone extensive Safeguarding training, including PREVENT Training, and Child Exploitation Awareness Training. I am fully subscribed to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Update Service with an Enhanced DBS Certificate.

After teaching throughout lockdown, I am extremely experienced at teaching via Zoom, with the full technical set up to provide lessons online.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is fundamentally student-focussed. The most important thing to me is that you are comfortable and working towards whatever goals you have in mind, no matter how big or small. Singing and performance should be a joyful experience, so I like to make sure you are working on music you feel passionate about and are interested in. We will work on developing a personalised plan for your own individual voice.

As mentioned above, I am very happy to provide lessons either via Zoom, in your home/work space, or I can teach you from my own open, airy and well-ventilated teaching space.
