Personal Description:

George is a working jazz saxophonist, woodwind doubler, composer & teacher living in North-East London.
He has over 7 years of regular performance experience, playing jazz & original compositions at major clubs and concert halls, touring the country as a National Youth Jazz Orchestra chairholder & depping in funk/pop bands for events all over the UK. He has also been engaged as a session musician for various indie-pop/rock, singer-songwriter & folk records.
George is an alumnus of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (2017-2021) & Aldeburgh Young Musicians (2014-17) and he specialises in saxophone and improvisation. He also offers classical saxophone, flute, clarinet, piano, guitar & theory lessons covering a wide range of genres.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching beginner to advanced jazz saxophone and improvisation privately since 2017. Additionally, I offer beginner piano, guitar and intermediate flute and clarinet lessons. I travel to students houses, teach from my house or online over Zoom.
I have an advanced DBS check and experience teaching all ages.

In September and November 2020, I delivered online zoom workshops for ‘Aldeburgh Young Musicians’ (Suffolk CAT) as part of their residential courses, teaching curated improvisational practises and frameworks of my own conception and planning and delivering sessions alongside visiting artists. I understand the spectrum of needs students have and am proficient in communicating with a young audience (8-18 years).

I've been employed by the National Youth Jazz Orchestra to teach one-to-one flute lessons to members of the junior ensembles which has been a fantastic opportunity to pass down the doubling skills that I’ve developed during my tenure in the orchestra.

In 2018, I completed the Artist as Educator module at Trinity Laban Conservatories part of my bachelor’s degree, which entailed successfully conceiving, planning and delivering tailored group lessons to primary school classes in South-East London.

I was hired as bandleader for the Fenland Youth Swing Band during the academic year of 2016/2017 after several years as principal alto saxophonist. I organised set-lists, ran rehearsals, conducted concerts and held responsibility for the bands administration.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor one-to-one lessons to the student's time & needs & we'll discuss your aspirations in lessons and create a pathway that engages you.
For complete beginners - I can introduce you to the fundamentals of music & instrumental technique and sound & inspire you to engage with music from a new perspective, as a keen listener or reader.
For the expert musician - I can introduce you to new concepts, challenging repertoire & exercises that push your creativity/fluency to new heights.
I am happy to work through graded qualifications with students or progress through a route that doesn't involve exams - our lessons will be rewarding, relaxed & fun either way !
