Geoffrey is a violin and piano teacher at Hampstead Music School, teaching on the weekends across London and surrounding areas including Finchley Road, Wembley and Harrow. Having graduated from UCL in Economics, he currently works as a qualified lawyer in London.
On the weekends, he teaches a handful of young music students between the ages of 4 and 11 years old on a one-to-one basis, often in preparation for their 11+ music scholarship auditions.
Geoffrey is very familiar with the level required and the necessary preparations for these auditions, having passed both grade 8 piano and violin (with distinction) at the age of 11, he was awarded a music scholarship at City of London School for Boys and was later awarded a scholarship at the prestigious Harrow School where he completed his secondary school. He also studied at the junior department of Royal College of Music.
He also prepares students with Grade 1-8 exams in accordance with ABRSM and Trinity Syllabuses.
Throughout his music career which spans over a decade, he was a first violinist at the University of London Symphony Orchestra. As a keen ensemble player, he was the head violinist at Harrow School's Piano Quartet which won the National Chambers Music Competition in 2003 and 2004. His past audience includes the Princess Royal and the Lord Mayor of London.
Geoffrey regularly performs in Charity Galas such as “Save the Children”, whose concerts are often televised across Asia. He was also filmed as part of the BBC’s drama, “Being April” and has appeared on numerous other televised programmes.
Geoffrey enjoys travelling across world with small ensembles and orchestras, having performed in Italy, Hong Kong and Malaysia with internationally renowned artists including Julian Lloyd Weber and Nicola Benedetti.
Result-driven, Geoffrey seeks to encourage pupils to work hard and ensure they have a good work-mentality when it comes to practicing and performing. Ultimately, helping young and bright musicians reach their full potential now and in later life.
In the past, Geoffrey has taught a number of students up to grade 8 standard from the age of 5 to 10. Many of them have now succeeded successfully with scholarship applications to top schools in the UK. He also teaches English, mathematic, verbal/non-verbal examination techniques and general troubleshooting in academia and music.
Geoffrey was brought up with a traditional Chinese background and attitude to work. Result-driven and finding the greatest satisfaction when pupils succeed in their goals. Geoffrey tends to accept students between the ages of 5 to 10 years old and in particular, those who are looking to strive towards scholarship applications for their transition to middle school. As such, Geoffrey expects his pupils to work hard and ensure they have a good work-mentality when it comes to practicing, along with the support of their parents. Due to high demand, Geoffrey only accepts older students if he recognises evidence of maturity and an untapped talent in their natural playing style.
