Personal Description:

I have many years of teaching experience from beginner to University level having worked as a Director of Music in some of the best schools in the country. I started my career as a Brass and Piano teacher and have led a wide range of performance groups from orchestral to big-band, musical theatre and choirs. Much of my time is now spent writing recording and performing music in a variety of contexts. I have successfully entered (and accompanied) hundreds of students for Royal Schools of Music exams from Gd 1 to 8 as well as having an excellent track record with GCSE and A Level Music classes. Many of my past pupils are leading successful lives in the music business, music academia, entertainment industry, recording artists as well as West End and Broadway performers.

Tutoring Experience:

Freelance Music Teacher/Composer/Musician (2014-present)
Director of Music Warwick Prep School (2008-2014)
Director of Music Lawrence Sheriff Grammar School (2005-2008)
Previously held posts as Head of Music at Cardinal Newman School Coventry, Coundon Court School Coventry, St Dunstan's School, Glastonbury. Peripatetic Brass and Piano teacher/accompanist and Ensemble director for Harrogate, N Yorks.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to some extent 'student centred' in that I try to build on the personality strength and skill sets already present. However, I also see the importance of ensuring that the student develops a well rounded approach to all areas of musicianship including musical literacy, harmonic understanding, interpretation, technique, aural training and improvisation. As a teacher I am creative and good humoured.
