Personal Description:
After studying music at Queens University Belfast I have been a professional horn player for 36 years and have worked all over the UK in orchestras and bands appearing at all major concert venues. I have toured overseas and have experience in recordings .
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught part time for many years, starting with the South Eastern music centre in N Ireland in 1986, and within RAF music services. I have taught privately in Lincolnshire and now in Berkshire and have experience of all brass instruments, horn and trumpet to grade 8 and trombone, euphonium, and tuba to grade 5. I teach piano to beginners grades 1-3. I can also teach music theory to grade 8. I currently teach beginner brass and piano in a local independent school and have enhanced DBS enclosure.
Tutoring Approach:
With Covid-19 I’m now moving all lessons online, so am available for What’s app/Skype or Zoom. Will also have more daytime flexibility. I believe basics are the key and certainly with beginners in brass I work on embrochure, posture and breathing. I deal with problems as they come along as there usually is an exercise to rectify the problem. With piano I teach the basic exercises, tunes and can also help with theory. I prefer a low key approach and realise that especially with adults that they are learning for fun. I can teach towards ABRSM exams or on a more casual/fun basis, its entirely up to the student or parent.
