Personal Description:

I have recently graduated from the University of Manchester with a First-Class Honours degree in music. During my degree, I studied various modules related to musical performance, including solo recitals and ensemble performance. I also successfully gained a place in the University of Manchester's Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Contemporary Music Ensemble.

In 2011, I competed in the Shropshire Concerto Competition. After three rounds, I was successful in becoming a finalist . This gave me the amazing opportunity to perform as a soloist, accompanied by an orchestra, at Theatre Severn, Shropshire. Subsequent to this performance, I gained a place in the National Youth Wind Orchestra.

Having achieved ABRSM Grade 8 with merit in bassoon and clarinet, as well as Grade 5 theory (with merit) I have developed a strong ability to perform confidently, with a high level of musical competence.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience in teaching, and have worked in a school for one year as a teaching assistant. During my time at university, I worked as a student mentor•. I advised first year students on a combination of academic and social issues and organised drop-in, tutorial sessions. I received training throughout the year and developed skills in teaching, communication, and facilitation.

Tutoring Approach:

I have tutored many students, whilst at university and school. I have helped students as they:

- Prepare for end-of-year or music (ABRSM) examinations
- Prepare for performances
- Need help with reading music/ general music theory

I endeavour to create a relaxed setting, whilst remained focused and staying on target. I recognise that there is no uniform method of learning. Everyone is different and has their own strengths and weaknesses. I believe it is crucial to invest in getting to know my students as individuals, and to adopt a teaching plan that is tailored to their needs.
