Information About Frances - Ladbroke Grove teacher - (1 review)
This is how 2 referees rated Frances:
I hold an MA in French Horn from the Royal Academy of Music and a BA in Music from the University of Cambridge. I am also undertaking the LRAM in teaching.
I am passionate about learning and education and have led and assisted in primary school outreach programmes across London (with English Touring Opera, Philharmonia's Virtual Orchestra and Open Academy, among others). I have also worked on music courses with children of all ages.
I am a freelance french horn player, performing regularly with a wide variety of orchestras and ensembles, most recently with the London Sinfonietta, the Britten-Pears Orchestra, the London Musical Theatre Orchestra and the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra.
I am enrolled on the DBS update service.
Currently, I teach privately a number of young instrumentalists and beginner piano for adults, and tutor both A-level music and GCSE maths. I am especially looking to take on more brass, and particularly horn students (French horn, trumpet, tenor horn). I also offer music theory and academic music tuition.
I am studying for the LRAM teaching diploma alongside my degree and am enrolled on the DBS update service. I completed my undergraduate degree in music at the University of Cambridge in 2015 with a 2i and have recently graduated with an MA from The Royal Academy of Music with Distinction.
Alongside private teaching, I have worked extensively in primary school music outreach programmes all over London, leading and assisting in a wide variety of projects, including with English Touring Opera, the Philharmonia’s Virtual Orchestra, and the Open Academy. This has involved coaching brass, piano and recorder players, composing songs and instrumental pieces with the children, and performing instrument demonstrations to large groups. I have also gained experience in working with SEN and visually-impaired children. Next year I will become a fellow of the Open Academy. As a staff member on the summer music courses, Music Makers, I have worked with children of all ages, particularly focusing on teaching 5 year-olds songs and the recorder.

In order to progress, it is important to understand the basics of the instrument and the process of playing/singing. As such, I ensure that my students have that fundamental understanding and progress logically through material. I am happy to offer (and thoroughly encourage) theory lessons as well. As everyone learns in a different way, I adapt my teaching to the individual. Although exams are important, my primary aim is to develop the musician, thoroughly exploring all aspects of the music.
Prices listed are merely an approximation - this will depend on the nature of the work required, and is thus flexible and negotiable. I am happy to teach sessions by the hour, half-hour, or any multiple thereof.
