Having started learning from the age of 5, I have since obtained my ABRSM grades 1-8 in classical piano. I then went on to study Music at A-Level and have recently graduated from the University of Leeds with a BMus degree in music performance, during which time I was awarded the Frank Toothill Performance Prize for outstanding achievement in vocal performance. I spent my third year of study at the Académie Supérieure de Musique de Strasbourg, where I received voice lessons with Marie Kobayashi, following tuition from internationally renowned dramatic soprano Rachel Nicholls and repertoire coaching Martin Pickard. Since taking up singing as my first study instrument at university, I have maintained piano as my second study instrument to an equally high level, receiving tuition from renowned pianist Ian Buckle. I am currently working towards attaining an ABRSM Vocal Performance Diploma and a Teaching DipABRSM in piano.
Alongside my teaching practice, I work part time with the Leeds International Piano Competition in the head operations department, and am preparing for a conservatoire Masters in vocal performance.
I currently teach privately at my home in Leeds, as well as at the Yorkshire Music School in Saltraire, The Leeds Music Hub and the Learn to Rock institution in Ilkley. I have experience in teaching piano, singing and music theory to students of all ages and abilities, across a range of musical genres. As a practicing musician with years of performance experience, I believe I can help you, whether you're a parent looking for your child's first music lessons, or an adult who's always wanted to learn. All my students have a 100% exam pass rate and I am fully DBS certified.
Everyone has different learning types, abilities, interests and goals; my lessons are therefore tailored to suite the individual, whether that be playing for pleasure or working towards exams or performances. Graded exams can serve as great indicators of your level of ability and be useful tools to show progression. However, they are not for everyone and are by no means essential in becoming an established musician.
So as to avoid building a linear skill set and actively encourage well rounded musicianship, I incorporate a wide range of learning methods and skills. My ultimate goal is to help you enjoy making music. As well as providing a solid foundation in technique, my lessons aim to facilitate your ability to express yourself through music in an encouraging and non-judgmental environment. You’ll ideally leave feeling inspired and enthusiastic about what has been honed in the lesson and what is still to be discovered!
I’m enthusiastic and knowledgeable about what I do and pride myself on being a friendly and approachable person, so please get in touch if you have any questions or want to arrange a consultation less!
